"Florida Remembers" is a collection of eleven documentaries about the people, places and events that shaped Florida's diverse history. Each program will focus on a particular region in the state. "Florida Remembers" will air on The Florida Channel's award-winning series, Florida Crossroads, starting October 3, 2011.

On Sunday, May 19, 2013 the crew of a replica Spanish sixteenth century galleon touring the east coast of Florida for the 500 year anniversary took time to enjoy Florida's amazing underwater preserve, the SS Copenhagen. This shipwreck is located off the coast of Pompano Beach in Broward County and charter boats leave daily from local dive shops. Submerged in 15 - 30 feet of water, this shipwreck is ideal for scuba or free diving.

Expedition Florida 500 finished their first XF500 Conservation Paddle down the Apalachicola River, beginning what will ultimately be a year-and-a-half-long journey of Florida's coastline, waterways, and aquatic ecosystem. Read more about them at http://www.fla500.com/news.php#xf500

Expedition Florida 500 (XF500) is a yearlong modern-day exploration of Florida's coastline, waterways, and aquatic ecosystem as seen through the eyes of the waterman. The journey is led by Mother Ocean and XF500 founder, Justin Riney. He launched from Pensacola on January 1, 2013, in honor of the 500th commemoration year of Florida.

Viva Florida 500 has proved to be a successful awareness campaign, collectively bringing more attention to Florida's history and diverse cultural heritage than ever before. This webinar will provide highlights of the Viva Florida 500 program to date, present results from research evaluating the impact of the initiative, and provide information on how Viva Florida will live on in 2014 and beyond. Find out how you and many other individuals, organizations and communities can utilize the Viva Florida brand to expand the visibility of your site, organization and business, while promoting Florida's history and cultural heritage.

In honor of Viva Florida 500, the Department of State's Division of Cultural Affairs is proud to present "Artistic Representations of Florida Throughout 500 Years." The exhibition is on view in the 22nd Floor Capitol Gallery through April 30, 2013 and features the work of Lucrezia Bieler, Xavier Cortada, Christopher Still, and Hermann Trappman. Additionally, it includes prints of sixteenth century engravings by Theodor de Bry based on paintings by Jacques Le Moyne from the private collection of Michael W. and Dr. Linda Fisher, an olive jar from the Columbus family crypt in Seville, and some attractive pieces of majolica from Mission San Luis.

In Day 4 we explore more of Universal Studios, looking at the non Harry Potter parts of the park. We then head over to Islands of Adventure to cool off with the 3 water rides before going back to Hard Rock Hotel and relaxing by the pool.

Day 6 and we start of by heading to the Polynesian Resort for the character breakfast at Ohna’s we we got to meet Lilo, Stich, Mickey and Pluto. We left the Polynesian and checked in for a one-night stay at the Art of Animation Resort. We then went to Disney Springs and got to do the Star Wars VR experience, The Void. We did some more exploring of Disney Springs and Claire did her first ever pin trade. After we’d seen everything we wanted to at Disney Springs we went back to the Art of Animation using the Disney Transport and had a quiet night at the hotel.
Next week we enter our first Disney park of the trip using our extra magic hours at Animal kingdom before heading over to Hollywood Studios for our booked Fast Passes and the Star Wars Dessert Party.

Today we celebrate Claire's (quite belated) 21st birthday! As a huge Harry Potter fan, Claire wanted to spend the day completely immersed in the Wizarding World of Harry Potter.
To make the most out of the day we set off very early from the villa and checked into Hard Rock Hotel, where we'll be staying for the next couple of days while we visit Universal Studios & Islands of Adventure. Staying on-site also meant we got express queue tickets and the use of an extra hour in the park before it officially opens. We had planned to make full use of this bonus time and were ready at the park gates for 7:30 AM.
Once in the park we head straight off to Diagon Alley and manage to walk on to 'Escape From Gringotts' twice with no queue. After, we go a buy all the supplies we need to be a proper witch & wizard for the day, making sure we pay with proper wizard money of course.
After our shopping spree in Diagon Alley and breakfast at the Leaky Cauldron, we catch the Hogwarts Express to Hogsmeade where we get our first view of Hogwarts Castle. This is the point that the Florida heat caught up with us. We had to take quite a few air con breaks around Hogsmeade and eventually decided to head out of the Wizarding World for a bit so we could cool down on 'Bilge Rat Barge Rapids'. Once we had been considerably cooled down by getting drenched on the ride, we head back through Hogsmeade to catch the Hogwarts Express again and return to Diagon Alley.
This trip to Diagon Alley consisted of us buying all the things we'd seen on our first visit and trying out a lot of the spells you can perform in the area. We then boarded the Hogwarts Express for our last journey back to Hogsmeade to enjoy food at the Three Broomsticks & drinks at the Hog's Head.
After a long and very fun filled day, we exit Islands of Adventure to catch the Hard Rock Hotel Water Taxi from City Walk. Once back at the hotel we are shown to our room and can unpack.
Our original plan was to head back out to the parks and watch 'The Nighttime Lights at Hogwarts' but unfortunately a storm started up and we really didn't feel like standing out in the rain to watch the show. Instead we made use of the drinks coupon Claire had been given by Hard Rock for her 21st birthday. We spent most of the evening at the pool side bar be entertained by the wonderful staff.
On next week's Vlog we continue our Universal adventures focusing on the Universal Studios side of the park and looking at more of the non Harry Potter themed areas. We also spend a great afternoon relaxing around the Hard Rock Hotel Pool.
